Age of Ultron Avengers Pop! Vinyl Figures

Avengers 2: Age of Ultron is not only coming to a theater near you this year, they are also coming to your Pop! Vinyl collection.

That is right Funko is already scheduled a release of  Age of Ultron figures and surprise it's February. Yes less then a month away you can own Ultron.

The new line includes, new versions of Thor, Iron Man (Mark 43), Captain America, and the Hulk plus for the first time Hawkeye, Ultron and Vision.

No word yet if they will be exclusives or not. Can you say Hot Topis?

Why you should read The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl

The shelves at your local comic shop are packed with comic titles, your weekly purchases probably contain some of the major titles from DC and Marvel, maybe even the Walking Dead. This post is about why you should be buying The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, and yes I bought my copy already.
 Doreen Green is a mutant, like the X-Men, who has the power of a squirrel and can talk to her fury compatriots. She fights the strongest of the Marvel Villains and always win.
Humor is the focus of Squirrel Girl which sees Doreen start college and fight Kraven the Hunter.
Other Marvel heroes and villains are set to appear in future issues.

First Appearance

Squirrel Girl was created by writer Will Murray and legendary artist Steve Ditko. She made her first appearance in Marvel Super-Heroes vol. 2 #8 in a story titled "The Coming of ... Squirrel Girl" (Winter 1991). In the issue Squirrel Girl ambushes Iron man in the hopes of teaming up with him, she  ends up saving him and defeating Doctor Doom.

Squirrel Girl was also a member of the Great Lakes Avengers.

Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy

We are just hours away from the premier of the long awaited Guardians of the Galaxy. We will continue our review of the characters that are appearing in the movie, Drax the Destroyer will surely be the enforcer of the group.

Drax the Destroyer made his first appearance in the pages of Iron Man #55, which also happens to be the first appearance of Thanos. This issue which hit newsstands on February 1973 is still highly underrated, a mint CGC graded copy can be yours for about $500, ungraded will cost a couple of  hundred. This one is truly worth hunting for, the value will be heading upwards.

About Drax
Drax was originally a human named Arthur Douglas. After his family was attacked and killed by the Thanos. an alien being named Kronos put Arthur's spirit and placed it in the powerful figure who would be named Drax the Destroyer. Drax has enhanced strength, can fly, and the ability to project energy blasts from his hands. The character seeks revenge on Thanos for killing his family. 

First Appearance
While battling the Blood Brothers Iron Man is telepathically warned by Drax about the two villains. are already battling him. Iron Man is defeated and the Blood Brothers bring him to Thanos duo render him unconscious and transport him to Thanos' desert base. Drax and Iron Man work together to defeat the Blood Brothers. Thanos escapes leaving behind a robot duplicate that self destructs. Iron Man and Drax get away just in time. Drax leaves to pursue Thanos.
The issue is writer and drawn by Jim Starlin.

In Guardians of the Galaxy
Drax will be played by WWE wrestling great Dave Batista. He will be the muscle of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

You have the entire day ahead of you so go to your local comic shops and get your copy of Iron Man #55, then get your tickets to see Guardians of the Galaxy.

San Diego Comic Con Exclusives - Marvel Comics

Continuing our preview of the upcoming San Diego Comic Con, the granddaddy of all comic cons, we review the Marvel comic exclusives you will want to hunt down while you are there.

Hasbro
The Infinity Gauntlet will play a big role in the upcoming Marvel Movie releases starting with Guardians of the Galaxy. Hasbro will have an exclusive Infinity Gauntlet action figure set that includes a replica of the glove. It will cost you $75 and will include 3.75″ figures of Nebula, Starfox, Thanos and his unrequited love Mistress Death

Continuing in the Thanos themed Hasbro will also have a Thanos Imperitive figure set also. This set will sell for $99 and will include 6" Marvel Infinite scale takes on Black Bolt, Medusa, Gladiator, Blastaar and Star-Lord.

If there is any left over inventory following the show they can be orders online at Hasbro Toys, so if you can't make the show you might still be able to get the treasure.

Funko
Funko will have 86 different SDCC exclusives, yes 86. From their Marvel line they will be selling Marvel Mystery Mini mates and there is a Thanos figure, suprise! I am guessing these will not be exclusive but premiering at SDCC. Here is complete list of figures. Some very cool 2.50" action

Another Iron Man exclusive, this one from Hot Toys is from Iron Man 3. The python Mark XX was seen during the final battle scene when all the Iron Man armors were fighting. Ticket price on this new suit is $220. Add it to your Iron Man Legion.

 

Diamond Select

The theme for Diamond Selects SDCC exclusives this year is based on the blockbuster movie X-Men Days of Futures Past and its link to the original comic story. See our full preview HERE.

 

Monogram International 

Monogram international will also have a tree piece Incredible Hulk vinyl bank set, the set includes Green, Grey and Red versions of the Hulk. It is limited to only 200 pieces and can be picked up at booth #3645. Who doesn't want a RULK bank in their collection?

You can also preorder a classic Physlocke With an entirely new colorway based on her classic X-Men outfit and a newly sculpted psi-energy field wrapping around her am and katana this rendition of Psylocke is the latest Bishoujo statue to be offered exclusively to attendees of the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con. Strictly limited to 1500 pieces.

Treasure Island Sports 
Another Kotobukiya exclusive will be the ArtFx Grey Hulk which will be sold at the Treasure Island Booth #5030. The two stores are teaming up to being fans the Hulk they have been waiting for. You can preorder at Treasure island website to guarantee one for your collection. $75 and its yours to display.

Trend Setters

Finally this Loki mini film cell from Thor 2 The Dark World. Limited to just 150 pieces. This is for all the Loki fans out there, you didn't think SDCC would leave you out did you. This will also be the hardest exclusive to get, limited to only 150. Run to Trend Setters as soon as you get there.

Comic Shop Review - Coliseum of Comics, Orlando

When most of us think of a comic book store located in a large retail mall, we think of a shop that is there to appeal to the masses, not specifically comic book hunter/gatherers. There is nothing wrong with this at all, the more people that get involved in comics the better it is for all of us.

With that being said, Coliseum of Comics is not your typical mall comic shop.
 

Located in the Fashion Square Mall in Orlando, FL the shop has a large selection of high end statues, toys, comics, new and old and other comic merchandise. 

High-End Merchandise- there were a number of cases located throughout the 6,000 square foot store that contained bust and full statues of many Marvel and DC heroes. These statues look great no matter where you see them, Coliseum presents them in a much better manner then most shops. I actually wanted to buy the entire Iron Man shelf.
 

Comics- Like every other comic shop we have visited recently, Coliseum has all the latest issues and trade paperbacks. They stand above the others with their back issue selection. They had back issues that go back to the Silver Age along with issues from the 80's and mores recent. Bins are set up in alphabetical order, prices are marked on each issue. More valuable issues, the ones we all must hunt for with a full wallet, are hung on a wall above the regular bins. If we had more time I would have went trough all the bins.

Toys - Had a large selection of recent toys from all the major toy lines. Lots of Funko stuff, big fans of the Pop! vinyl figures. This was also the first shop we saw the Joker Sofubi figure, love the mego like packaging Medicom used. If the shop lacked anything it would be older toys. We personally enjoy buying older toys, not everyone does.

Other Stuff - T-Shirts, Posters and other goodies from your favorite comic related characters. Want light saber chop sticks, they got 'em. Need a bottle opener, take your pick. Ice cube trays that look like hero emblems, yeah that to. I always enjoy finding things I never knew existed. We also liked the  comic book presentation outside the store, there are three plant jars painted with superhero. They look like Ancient Greek pottery.

Comic Shop Grade - A

What we gathered on the Coliseum of Comics hunt? Bought a couple of Pop! Vinyl figures and light saber chop sticks, oh yes we did. Would have bought some comics we need to gathere but didn't have our hunting list. Damn you list!

Overall we are very glad we visited Coliseum of Comics, a very nice suprise in Orlando and the last shop we visited in Florida. We will be back again.

Next time your on a hunt in Florida or need a break from Disney take a quick trip to the Fashion Square Mall and spend some cash at the coliseum. Until then check them out on-line Coliseum of Comics web page

Animation Comic Game Hong Kong Fair Exclusives

It's bad enough that we have to try and hunt down exclusive items sold only at specific Comic Conventions located throughout the United States ( still looking for Blue Lantern Flash), now you are going to have to hunt down items from Hong Kong based Animation Comic Game Fair or ACGHK for short.

This year will be the 15th Annual and there will be some awesome exclusive comic book based figures for you to hunt down. These three high end figures are from Hot Toys. Each of the three are 1/6 scale figures.

Directly from the blockbuster movie Iron Man 3 come the Python Armor (Mark XX) figure. This is one of the suits you can see during the final battle of the movie.

Continuing this movie themed line, there will also be Joker Bank Robber version from Batman: Dark Knight. The figure comes with his shotgun, clown mask and a bag full of grenades.

Finally there will be a an Ancient Predator figure from Alien vs. Predator. It comes with a the various weapons used in the movie and a Xenomorph's (Alien) head on a stick.

ACGHK runs from July 25-29th so get your reservations, buy your tickets and get your butt to Hong Kong. This will be an international hunt.
