Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy


We are just hours away from the premier of the long awaited Guardians of the Galaxy. We will continue our review of the characters that are appearing in the movie, Drax the Destroyer will surely be the enforcer of the group.

Drax the Destroyer made his first appearance in the pages of Iron Man #55, which also happens to be the first appearance of Thanos. This issue which hit newsstands on February 1973 is still highly underrated, a mint CGC graded copy can be yours for about $500, ungraded will cost a couple of  hundred. This one is truly worth hunting for, the value will be heading upwards.

About Drax
Drax was originally a human named Arthur Douglas. After his family was attacked and killed by the Thanos. an alien being named Kronos put Arthur's spirit and placed it in the powerful figure who would be named Drax the Destroyer. Drax has enhanced strength, can fly, and the ability to project energy blasts from his hands. The character seeks revenge on Thanos for killing his family. 


First Appearance
While battling the Blood Brothers Iron Man is telepathically warned by Drax about the two villains. are already battling him. Iron Man is defeated and the Blood Brothers bring him to Thanos duo render him unconscious and transport him to Thanos' desert base. Drax and Iron Man work together to defeat the Blood Brothers. Thanos escapes leaving behind a robot duplicate that self destructs. Iron Man and Drax get away just in time. Drax leaves to pursue Thanos.
The issue is writer and drawn by Jim Starlin.

In Guardians of the Galaxy
Drax will be played by WWE wrestling great Dave Batista. He will be the muscle of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
